Train movement resumed after the fire that broke out at a tyre shop and a few other establishments adjacent to the railway line in the Dewanhat area of Chittagong was brought under control.
Twelve firefighting units managed to put out the fire after two hours of frantic efforts at 2:30pm.
The fire broke out at 12:45pm and forced the railway authorities to halt train movement.
Chittagong Railway Station Manager Ratan Kumar Chowdhury said due to the fire Bijoy Express and Mahanagar Prabhati from Chittagong could not leave on time. Additionally, the Sonar Bangla Express train from Dhaka could not reach Chittagong station on time.
Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Abdul Hamid Miah said: "Several shops, including a rickshaw garage, next to the railway line in Dewanhat area of the city caught fire. 12 units of four stations including Agrabad, Nandankanan are trying to control the fire."
