Four upazilas of Gopalganj district are going to be declared as free of homeless and landless people on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will distribute 1,963 houses in Tungipara, Kotalipara, Kashiani and Muksudpur upazilas under the fourth phase of the Ashrayan 2 project on Wednesday, Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner Kazi Mahbubul Alam confirmed to Dhaka Tribune.

The deputy commissioner said 593 families in Muksudpur upazila, 640 in Kashiani upazila, 389 in Kotalipara upazila and 341 in Tungipara upazila will receive the houses under the government's housing scheme.

As all landless people in these four upazilas will come under the government's housing project, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially declare the upazilas as free of landless and homeless people, he added.

However, only Gopalganj Sadar upazila will not be declared homeless and landless in this phase.

In Sadar Upazila, 1,994 landless families have been given houses under the shelter project.

The construction of houses of another 230 families is yet to be completed. They will receive houses in the next phase.

The deputy commissioner said that the Sadar upazila will be declared free of landless and homeless families in the next phase.

The government official said: “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced that no one will remain homeless and landless in the country. So, we are working to free Gopalganj district from homeless and landless people.”
