Dense fog with cold wave has been disrupting the life of people of all ages, especially children, and regular activities in the Bhola district for the last few days as the mercury drops to as low as 12°C.
The pressure of patients with cold-related diseases, mainly pneumonia, in the outdoors of the government and private hospitals, has increased in the last 24 hours.
Nineteen children suffering from pneumonia were admitted to Bhola 20-Bed General Hospital during this time and 139 in the last one week. One of them died. Currently, 63 children are being treated at the hospital.
The child who died is Muntaha. She is the son of Abbas Uddin of Aslampur Union of Charfesson Upazila.
For the past few days, cold waves have been prevailing across the district. It has become a catastrophe as the poorer section of the people in the city and the rural people are suffering due to the winter. Outside the city, people are burning fire on the streets, yards and open field.
Bhola Meteorological Office Observer Mahbub Rahman said the temperature of 12°C was recorded in Bhola yesterday and the humidity of the wind was 2 nautical miles per hour.
The sun was not seen at day time. Poor people are suffering in extreme winter. Workers could not go to work. Besides, the launch and bus movement are being disrupted due to dense fog.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer SM Delwar Hossain said that 4,000 blankets had been allotted in the district and would be distributed among the poor and sixty. “Further allocations will be give, if necessary” he added.
