BNP leaders and activists have gathered around the venue for the party's mass rally in Rangpur.
The rally started at 11:30am on Saturday, two and a half hours ahead of schedule, at Rangpur Collectorate Eidgah. Members of the BNP and its affiliates had been converging on the city from the eight districts of Rangpur division since Friday night.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will give a speech as the chief guest at the rally presided over by the chairman of the party's Rangpur metropolitan unit, Shamsuzzaman Shamu.

Most of the party members were having to come to the venue on foot due to the ongoing transport strike.
Saiful Islam, president of the BNP's Rangpur district unit, claimed that police were stopping people from coming to the rally venue, saying they could not move along in large groups.
