The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Saturday claimed to have seized banned drugs worth nearly Tk13.5 crore in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Tipped off, a patrol team of the BGB intercepted a boat carrying two suspected smugglers in the Kharangkhali area of Teknaf at 1:40am while the duo was heading towards the Beribadh area after crossing the Naf River, said Lt Col Sheikh Khalid Md Iftekhar, commander of the BGB’s Teknaf battalion.
The two suspected smugglers managed to escape but the BGB men seized a bag containing 2.12kg of crystal meth and 30,000 Yaba tablets worth Tk11.5 crore.
Meanwhile, a team of BGB-2 in another drive seized 50,000 Yaba tablets and a battery-run three-wheeler in Hwaikong of Teknaf at 5:10am.
The market value of the seized items is Tk1.51 crore.
However, no one was detained in connection with the haul.
