He is the sixth victim of such an attack in the last three months

Update : 22 Sep 2022, 11:29 AM

Another Rohingya man was hacked to death by unidentified assailants less than a day after a volunteer was killed in a similar manner at the Ukhiya camp in Cox’s Bazar.

The deceased, identified as Ershad, a resident of Extension camp-4 H of Kutupalong camp, was killed early on Thursday.

Masud Anwar, additional superintendent of police of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) confirmed the matter to The Dhaka Tribune.

He said that police were trying to identify the assailants and efforts were underway to arrest them.

Police and volunteers are of the view that the murders are part of a ploy to deter volunteers from taking up guarding duties at night.

Ershad is the sixth victim of such an attack in the last three months.

Earlier on Wednesday, Zafar, 35, a volunteer guard in front of the entrance of camp-18, was hacked to death by some unidentified assailants.

So far, 11 people including six Rohingya volunteers were killed in similar manners in the camps during the last three months.

Rebel Rohingya groups are reportedly carrying out attacks in refugee camps one after another.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh-Myanmar tensions reached their peak last week when mortar shells were hurled into Bangladeshi territory in Bandarban.

On Friday, one person was killed and several injured due to the shellings which created widespread panic among the border residents and Rohingyas.
