Four people went missing as a boat capsized in the Padma River due to its strong current near Satbaria area on Sunday morning.
However, their identities could not be known immediately.
Divers from the local Fire Service and Civil Defence have started rescue operations.
Fire service Station Officer Latiful Bari said they received the information around 7:50am and rushed to the spot immediately.
A straw-laden boat with 20 people on board was coming to boat ghat at Mojaner Mor but sank due to the strong current of the river. Some 16 passengers managed to swim ashore, he added.
Meanwhile, in the same area, another grass-laden boat with three passengers on board capsized while a rescue operation for the first boat's missing people was on going.
But, fire service and BGB personnel managed to rescue the people instantly, Latiful said.
