A case has been filed against 2,500 people in connection with BNP’s clash with police in Manikganj during the observance of the party’s 44th founding anniversary on Thursday.

On Thursday night, sub-inspector (SI) of sadar police station Md Abdul Liton filed the case as the plaintiff.

Thirty-three prominent activists were named amongst the 2,500 people in the case. The rest were unidentified leaders and workers of BNP.

Three of the accused were arrested from the spot and raids are on to arrest others, (OC) Abdur Rouf Sarker said Friday afternoon.

According to the case statement, on the day of the incident, the accused blocked Shaheed Taju Road in Shewta area and started chanting anti-government and anti-state slogans during a programme marking BNP's 44th founding anniversary.

BNP’s Manikganj District unit chief Afroza Khan Rita said: “Police hurled batons and tear gas canisters at BNP leaders and workers while going to the party's foundation anniversary program on Thursday. Chhatra League and Jubo League leaders and activists beat BNP leaders and activists. On the contrary, false cases have been filed against BNP leaders and workers.”

The protesters began pushing members of police after they were requested to unblock the road to keep traffic situation under control, eventually leading to a clash, read the statement.
