Cox’s Bazar trawler capsize: Bodies of 7 fishermen recovered

Six others still remain missing

The bodies of two more fishermen who went missing after a fishing trawler capsized in the sea at Najiratek Channel of the Bay of Bengal were recovered on Sunday afternoon.

With this, the bodies of seven fishermen out of the eight missing people have been recovered.

On Sunday morning, the Coast Guard recovered three bodies from the Maheshkhali Channel of Cox's Bazar at about 10:30am while two more bodies were recovered at 5pm.

The bodies of Hossain Ahmed, Azizul Haque and Mohammad Absar, were recovered in the morning. All the fishermen hailed from Purbo Hamzar Deil Adarsha village of Khurushkul union of Sadar upazila of Cox's Bazar.

The bodies of Anwar Hossain and Nita-Nazir Hossain Nurul Islam of the same village were recovered from the Bay in the evening.

Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Md Selim Uddin confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune, adding: “The trawler sank on Friday afternoon due to adverse weather conditions.”

Earlier, members of the Coast Guard on Saturday recovered bodies of two fishermen from the Bay of Bengal a day after a fishing trawler carrying 19 fishermen capsized amid the low depression in the sea on Friday afternoon.

The fishing trawler MB Mayer Dua carrying 19 fishermen capsized due to unrest in the sea at Najiratek Channel on Friday afternoon.
