Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad staged demonstrations in Rangpur protesting the recent communal violence and arson attacks on the Hindu community in Narail.
The organization's Rangpur District and Metropolitan committee staged the rally in front of Rangpur Press Club on Saturday.
At the protest program, the organization puts forth a seven-point demand, including implementing the government manifesto before the election.
One of the protestors said: “Nowadays we are oppressed and neglected in many ways. If it continues like this, it will not be possible to build a society with the spirit of the Liberation War.”
They urged the government to enact protection laws and form the National Minorities Commission to ensure the protection of minorities.
Condemning the incident of arson, vandalism and attack on the temple of the Hindu community in Narail, the protestors demanded proper justice.
Acting President Sushant Bhowmik, General Secretary Swapan Kumar Roy, Metropolitan President Subrata Sarkar Mukul, General Secretary Alok Nath, Mahila Oikya Parishad President Rita Sarkar and others addressed the rally.
Later, the protestors brought out a procession that paraded different streets of the town.
On Friday, a mob vandalized a temple, grocery stores and several homes of the Hindu community in the Dighalia Bazar area of Lohagara upazila of Narail.
Angry villagers became violent in the afternoon, alleging that a Hindu boy named Akash Shaha had made a post on Facebook hurting their religious sentiments.
