Another motorcyclist held for trying to cross Padma Bridge defying ban

The government on June 26 announced that it was imposing a ban on motorcycle movement on the bridge after a fatal accident

Police have detained a man trying to cross the Padma Bridge on his motorcycle defying the government’s ban on the two-wheeled motor vehicle.

Md Zayed was held at the toll plaza at the Mawa end of the bridge at around 5:30am on Friday.

Padma Bridge North police station OC Alamgir Hossain said a mobile court would slap the detainee with a fine.

Earlier, on Thursday, an army patrol team detained Khaled Mahfuz, 22, for the same offence and turned him over to the police.

The government on June 26 announced that it was imposing a ban on the movement of motorcycles on the bridge from the next day after two bikers sustained fatal injuries.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Padma Bridge with great fanfare on June 25.
