Police have arrested a 50-year-old man for raping a seven-year-old girl at Saltha upazila in Faridpur on Saturday.
The accused, Delwar Hossain Kumkum Mia, hails from Gutti union of the upazila, said Md Sheikh Sadiq, officer-in-charge (OC) of Saltha police station.
He said that the victim was rescued and sent to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur for a medical test.
Habibur Rahman Lavlu, chairman of the Gutti union, said the child is studying at a local madrasah.
“Delwar lured the child with a Tk5 coin and took her to a cattle farm near his house and raped her,” he added.
Citing the victim, the chairman said that she had been raped multiple times in the last few days.

Victim’s mother said that Delwar threatened her to settle the matter with the help of local leaders. “At one point, I was forced to settle the matter as he hold a knife in my neck.”
On information, the police rushed to the spot, rescued the child and sent her to the hospital after receiving her statement.
Police later arrested the man with the help of locals.
“No case has been filed yet. However, legal action is being taken in the incident,” the OC said.
