A school teacher, Utpal Kumar, who was injured after a student assulted him with a cricket stump on Saturday, died while undergoing treatment on Monday.
“He died at Savar Enam Medical College and Hospital at around 5:15am,” Emdadul Haque, sub-inspector (SI) of Ashulia police station told Dhaka Tribune.
Utpal Kumar was a lecturer in the Political Science Department and chairman of the disciplinary committee at Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia.
Saiful Hasan, principal of the school, said: “A girls’ cricket match was held on Saturday. Utpal Kumar was watching the match on one side of the field, and suddenly a student struck him with a stump and fled away from the spot.”

He added that Utpal was a strict teacher and used to ask his students to cut their hair or counsel them if they had behavioral issues. “Maybe the student had grudges against him,” Saiful Hasan added.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Ashulia Police Station Emdadul Haque said: “A case has been filed in this reagrd naming the student and some unidentified individuals. Actions are underway to arrest the accused.”
However, the accused student, who is a tenth-grader, is still at large.
