Two men were critically injured when their motorcycles collided with each other on the Mawa section of the Padma Bridge, on the first day of the opening on Sunday.
The incident was reported around 8pm, Shariatpur Additional Superintendent of Police Suman Deb confirmed.
Meanwhile, Padma Bridge North Police Station OC Alamgir Hossain told Dhaka Tribune that they have heard of the accident and looking into the matter.
Witnesses said the two bikes crashed into each other due to excessive speed.
In a video that went viral on social media showed that two people, critically injured were lying on the side of the bridge.
This is the first accident reported since the Padma Bridge was opened to traffic in the morning.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to ban the movement of motorcycles on the bridge. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a notice in this regard on Sunday evening.
The decision will come into effect from 6am on Monday and continue till further notice.
