A four-member committee has been formed to decide what immediate steps needs to be implemented to resolve the waterlogging in Chittagong city.
The committee was formed at a special meeting with the mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Rezaul Karim Chowdhury and members of other government entities on Wednesday afternoon at the CCC office.
Members of the committee include CDA Project Director Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Shah Ali, CCC Ward Councillor and Chairman of the Standing Committee for Waste Management Mubarak Ali, and CCC Chief Engineer Rafiqul Islam.

Meanwhile, the mayor said the continuous rain has caused several areas to become submerged.
Within seven days, the committee will visit various locations to investigate the waterlogging, he added.
City Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury presided over the meeting while Chairman of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Zahirul Alam Dobhas, Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, WASA, City Corporation and officials of various service organizations were present, among others.
The Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) undertook the Chittagong Waterlogging Removal Project (CWRP) four years ago at a cost of Tk5,616 crore. However, the residents are yet to get any relief as the project is yet lagging.
The project was expected to be finished by 2020. However, it was pushed back due to a variety of factors, including the Covid situation resulting in the project’s term being extended.
