Bogura jail authorities have released a convicted police constable who has another arrest warrant on his head.

On Sunday, a court granted Anwar Hossain Jewel, a constable at Sirajganj Kamarkhand police station bail in a cheque fraud case.

He was convicted in a dowry case but was not shown arrested. However, there is a warrant out against him, saying he has to show up on court on Monday.

However, despite the warrant he was allowed to walk out of jail on Sunday.

Bogura Jail in charge SM Mohiuddin says that they have not received any court order regarding Jewel’s arrest in the dowry case.

Jewel, hailing from Bogura’s Shibganj had married Khadija Akhter from the same area.

His wife had filed a dowry case against him while her older sister Selina Akhter filed a case for cheque fraud.

Last year, Bogura Judicial Magistrate Court sentenced him to one year and five months in jail and fined in Tk5,000 in the dowry case.

Meanwhile, another court fined him Tk400,000 in the cheque fraud case.

Jewel, who was absconding when the sentences were absconding was arrested on June 9 this year and sent to jail.

On Sunday, he was granted bail for Tk200,000 in the cheque fraud case. However, the court also ordered a production warrant against, asking him to show up in jail in the dowry case.

According to court sources, the warrant was sent to Bogura jail authorities.

The plaintiff’s counsel Sadique Wasik Badhon says that now that Jewel has walked out of jail, the chances of him showing up to court is slim.
