A group of miscreants assaulted a youth in Cox’s Bazar for protesting harassment of his sister.
The incident took place on May 31 at the Khurushkul Ashrayan project area of the district.
Police detained two in this connection early Sunday after the video of the assault went viral on social media.
Cox's Bazar Sadar Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Munirul Gias told Dhaka Tribune that a man named Abdul Monaf was assaulted by three miscreants for protesting the harassment of his sister.
The detainees are Arman, 30, and Rayhan, 28.
Abdul Monaf said: "We have a house in the shelter project. On May 31, my sister was going to a relative’s house. On her way, a group of men started harassing my sister.
"When my sister wanted to leave, they blocked the road again and again. I saw all this from the project and ran there. As soon as I asked what was happening, they hit my sister with a stick. Then I hugged my sister to protect her. Then, they started beating me up as well."
Monaf alleged that he had lodged a complaint with the police. But the police did not take any action then.
