A mobile court has sentenced the director of a clinic in Gazipur – also a fake doctor – to three months in prison for providing abortions as well as operating the institute without licence.
The court, led by Executive Magistrate Thandar Kamruzzaman, carried out the raid on Thursday. Officials of the district civil surgeon’s office were also present at the time.
Jahanara Khatun, director of Janasheba Shasthya Kendra, had gotten nursing training, but she had been providing medical care masquerading as a doctor, said Kamruzzaman.
She had been caught red-handed while performing an abortion, he added.
Jahanara had been jailed and fined previously for the same offences, said the executive magistrate.
