Miscreants have attacked and injured Habibur Rahman Swapan, a senior journalist and president of Pabna Reporters Unity.
Swapan was attacked by some listed criminals on Wednesday night when he was returning home on his motorcycle at Santhia in Pabna.
The journalist filed a general diary with Santhia police station in this regard on Thursday.
The attack took place in front of the police station and the attackers planned to murder him on the spot, he alleged.
He said that a quarter became angry after his report on the Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s (UNO) actions during a student demonstration. The demonstration was organized to protest the sexual harassment of a student by the principal of Santhia High School. The UNO snatched away banners held by agitated students during the demonstration.
Senior journalists in Pabna condemned the attack. Policemen were seen guarding the residence of the journalist following the attack.
Meanwhile, police have arrested a journalist named Foisal Ahmed in Rajshahi in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Foisal is the Rajshahi correspondent of Jagonews24.com.
Boalia police said the journo was arrested on Tuesday night as he is accused in the case filed in 2013 during countrywide protests by the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
Mazharul Islam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, confirmed the matter. He said that Foisal was an activist of Jamaat-Shibir and was also sued for attacks on police. He was on the run.
A Rajshahi court later issued an arrest warrant against Foisal, prompting the police to arrest him.
He was sent to jail, after being produced before the court.
