Khulna traders fined over 1L for stockpiling edible oil

Around 73,032 liters of soybean oil and 163,608 liters of palm oil were seized

Authorities on Thursday fined three local businesses Tk1.60 lakh in Khulna for stockpiling edible oil.

The mobile court also seized 73,032 liters of soybean and 163,608 liters of palm oil from them, said Rapid Action Battalion (RAB- 8) Superintendent Al Asad Md Mahfuzul Islam.

“Traders in Khulna are creating artificial crises in the market by ignoring government rules and regulations. We fined that so that they do not do this in future again,” he added.

Khulna District Administration Executive Magistrate Debashish Basak said the three companies were also asked to sell oil at a fair price in the future.

2,359 litres of edible oil seized in Natore

Authorities have seized 2,359 litres of edible oil illegally stored in five shops in Natore district town.

A joint team of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) and members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted the drives in the town and made the seizure, said commanding officer of Rab-5, Farhad Hossain, reports UNB.

They also imposed a cumulative fine of Tk 98,000 on the owners of the five shops and sold the seized items at the local market.
