Woman dies after ex-boyfriend set her on fire

Police is currently interrogating the prime accused Saddam who is undergoing treatment at the hospital

A woman in Satkhira succumbed to burn injuries five days after her husband set her and himself ablaze with petrol to die together.

The deceased, Tamanna Khatun, 20, died on Monday while undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn And Plastic Surgery, Patkelghata police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kanchan Kumar Roy confirmed. 

On May 5, Tamanna’s ex-boyfriend, Malaysia expatriate Saddam Hossain tried to kill both of them by setting himself on fire and wrapping himself around Tamanna.

At that point, Tamanna’s present boyfriend Forhad Hossain also sustained burn injuries while trying to save her.

Both Saddam, and Forhad are undergoing treatment at the same hospital, said OC Kanchan.

Meanwhile, Tamanna’s family has claimed that Saddam is Tamanna’s ex-husband.

Her father Abdul Haq filed a case against nine individuals, including Saddam Hossain and three anonymous people at Patkelghata police station.

“We detained one of the accused Sheikh Tuhin Hossain. Attempts are being made to arrest the rest of them,” OC Kanchan said.

The investigating officer of the case, SI Krishna, is currently staying at the hospital to interrogate the prime accused Saddam.
