A 16-year-old boy drowned in the Bay of Bengal off Cox's Bazar while taking a bath on Wednesday, officials said on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Saiful, son of Habib Ullah, a Rohingya camp resident.
Hasanuzzaman, superintendent of Cox’s Bazar police, said Saiful and his friend, Raihan, 14, went to the beach area to take a bath on Wednesday afternoon.
At one stage, Saiful was swept away by strong currents of the sea.
Locals fished out the body of Saiful at around 6pm. They rushed him to a local hospital where doctors declared Saiful dead on arrival.
