Passenger pressure abates at Shimulia

Ferry services will be operational on Tuesday as well, says a BIWTC official

Update : 02 May 2022, 11:12 AM

Following long tailbacks of vehicles carrying Eid holidaymakers for the past few days, the passenger pressure at Shimulia Ghat in Munshiganj has finally dropped.

On Monday morning, ferry, launch and speedboat operations were continuing as usual.

Passengers and vehicles are being crossed by 10 small and big ferries on Shimulia-Banglabazar-Majhikandi route. Besides, there are eight trawlers, 85 launches and 154 speedboats.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC)'s Shimulia Ghat Manager Md Foisal said six ferries have left the terminal till 9am in the morning.

“Passenger services will be provided in the same way today and Tuesday,” he said.

According to the authorities, most of the passengers reached their destination overnight thinking that it might be Eid on Monday. That is why the ferry terminal wore almost a deserted look compared to the previous days. However, passenger pressure may increase after noon.
