A man was killed, and two others injured when a bus in Munshiganj’s Dhaka-Mawa expressway hit a pickup van on Saturday.
The accident was reported around 9am, from the district's Sreenagar upazila.
The deceased were identified as Tushar Rajbongshi, 45, a passenger of the pickup van. He was a fishmonger by profession.
Afzal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hasara Highway police outpost, confirmed the matter.
The “Shadhin Express” bus hit the pickup van from behind, killing Tushar Rajbongshi instantly on the spot. Two passengers of the bus were also injured when the vehicle's glass shattered from the collision, the OC said.
Local people rushed the injured to a nearby hospital and Tushar’s body was recovered by the police.
“We managed to seize the bus but the driver fled the scene after the incident,” OC Afzal said.
Meanwhile, the road accident caused gridlock on one side of the Dhaka-Mawa expressway. However, traffic movement went back to normal after a couple of hours.
