A youth has beaten up his wife to death for dowry in Indurkani Upazila of Pirojpur.
According to police, Sumi Akhter, 18, was at her husband’s house at Bepsabunia village when husband Hridoy Hawlader tortured her to death.

He later poured insecticide in her mouth to run the incident as suicide on Tuesday night.
The deceased, daughter of Milon Mollah, was a grade 10 student at Balipara Secondary School.
Sumi’s mother lives abroad, and thus Hridoy demanded that she bring a motorbike for him. When the wife rejected the demand, Hridoy tortured her to death, police say.

After killing her, the husband tried to portray the incident as a suicide case and poured poison into her mouth.
Relatives rushed to the house on information, and took her to a local hospital. But Sumi was already dead, the duty doctor at the hospital confirmed.
Enamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Indurkani police station, said that they had arrested Hridoy and his mother.
