Bus services were suspended on all routes for some time, causing immense suffering to passengers

Update : 21 Apr 2022, 04:39 PM

Transport workers in Dinajpur have called off their strike to protest the arrest of several fellow workers and the recent attack on one of their leaders.

The decision came on Thursday afternoon following a meeting between leaders of the Dinajpur Motor Vehicle Workers’ Union and Dinajpur Motor Vehicle Owners’ Association, and senior police officers.

The general secretary of the workers’ union, Fazle Rabbi, announced the withdrawal of the strike, following which all transport services in the district resumed operations.

The workers said their demands had been met.

Earlier in the day, bus and other transport services on all routes in the district were suspended, causing immense suffering to passengers.

Dinajpur Motor Vehicle Workers’ Union at the time demanded that all arrested workers be released immediately and condemned the attack on their leader Dablu.

Kotwali police station OC Mozaffar Hossain said: “A few ambulance drivers were rioting at (Dinajpur) Medical College Hospital. Police made four arrests after receiving the news.

“Later, other ambulance drivers blocked the road with an ambulance and police lifted their blockade soon after.”
