All seven assistant upazila education officers of Ullapara in Sirajganj have been transferred over allegations of negligence in duty.

A transfer letter from Primary and Mass Education Director General Alamgir Mohammad Mansurul Alam reached the upazila on Tuesday.

The assistant upazila officers are Md Al Mahmud, Rabiul Karim, Ishrat Jahan Orchi, Anisuzzaman, Jahangir Alam, Abu Syed and Ashraf Ali.

“We learnt that a copy of the transfer letter arrived in the evening. But I do not know who has been transferred where,” Al Mahmud, the acting upazila education officer, told Bangla Tribune.

However, reliable sources say the education officers have been transferred to different upazilas in Sirajganj and Natore.

According to Sirajganj District Primary Education Officer Aminul Islam Mondal, on April 7 and April 9, the newly appointed UNO Md Ujjal Hossain suddenly visited a few of the government primary schools and found most teachers to be absent.

He said that he also found some teachers making the students do their hair during school hours.

During this, the UNO himself took the classes and later gave the transfer order, he added.

Mondal said that Al Mahmud had been the acting upazila education officer as no one was appointed to the office for some time.

There are around 278 primary schools in Ullapara and the transferred employees have been ordered to join their new stations by April 18.
