The Daul Barbakpur High School authorities in Naogaon’s Mohadevpur have filed a general diary with the police in connection with the assault of teachers and vandalism on April 6 over a hijab controversay.

In the GD filed on Sunday, Headmaster Dharani Kanta Barman accuses 140-150 unknown persons for the attack.

According to the GD, the accused assaulted the school teachers on that day and also vandalized five to six plastic chairs.

Mohadevpur police station Officer-in-Charge Azam Uddin Mahmud confirmed the matter.

On Saturday, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Habibur Rahman issued a show-cause notice to Assistant Headmistress of the school Amodini Pal over the incident of beating up students.

She has been asked to explain herself within seven days after the incident on April 6.

Earlier, the authorities formed a three-member investigation committee to look into the incident.

On that day, agitated locals gathered at the school and waged a violent protest after the rumour of a Hindu teacher beating up 16-18 female students of eighth, ninth and 10th grades for wearing hijab spread like a wildfire.

Mizanur Rahman, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Mohadevpur, said that the assistant headmistress and another teacher Badiul Alam had beaten up both male and female students for not wearing school dress. One of the girls was a Hindu.

“But the incident later appeared to have led to the hijab controversy,” he added.
