A man has attacked the general manager of a clothing factory in Savar’s Ashulia with a knief for sexually harassing his wife, who also works at the same factory.

Barek, 27, stabbed AK Azad, the newly-appointed general manager of Adiyat Apparels factory at Narshingpur on Tuesday evening.

Ashulia police station Inspector Ziaul Haque Zia confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Barek works as a helper in the factory’s sewing department while his wife is a folding man in the packing department.

Azad, on the first day of his work, went to visit operations on the second floor of the factory during the night shift. At that time, he inappropriately touched several female workers, including Barek’s wife.

When she complained to her husband, Barek went to Azad’s office and confronted him. During the argument, Barek stabbed him in the hand with a knief used at his workplace.

Azad was rushed to the local women and children’s healthcare centre for primary treatment and then sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Tamim Mahmud Rinku, the owner of the factory, said that he had heard of the matter. “The worker got excited and took steps without informing the administration,” he said.

Sub-Inspector Faridul Alam said that Mariam and Barek were taken to the police station.

No case was filed over the matter till Wednesday evening.
