Two killed, six injured as pickup truck, autorickshaw collide head-on in Tangail

The pickup truck driver managed to escape, say police

Two people have been killed and six others were injured in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and autorickshaw in Tangail.

The incident was reported from Kalihati Sadar upazila on Friday, said Azizur Rahman,  Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalihati police station.

The deceased have been identified as the autorickshaw driver Ramzan Ali, 55, and a passenger of the vehicle Rina, 30.

The Kalihati-bound autorickshaw was hit by the Hamidpur-bound pickup truck near Kalihati RS Govt Pilot High School. Ali and Rina died instantly on the spot, he added.

Two severely injured victims were rushed to Tangail General Hospital, and the rest were taken to Kalihati Upazila Health Complex.

“We seized the pickup truck, but the driver managed to escape,” the OC added.

The bodies will be handed over to the families following legal proceedings, he said.
