State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak has demanded legal action against people involved in the obscene dance incident that took place in two schools in Natore to mark Independence Day.
The event was held at the grounds of Bingram Government Primary School and High School in Singra Upazila.
Upazila Education Officer Aminur Rahman and Primary Education Officer Ali Ashraf sent the president and headmaster of the school a show cause notice on Wednesday.
They have been asked to respond within the next three days.
On Monday, the two educational institutions and the Bingram Prabhat Kakuli Samiti jointly organized the sports and cultural program on the occasion of Independence Day.
Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak was supposed to be present as the chief guest at the function, presided over by local ward 9 Awami League President Delwar Hossain.
However, Palak was not present on the occasion despite his name being on the poster.
At the cultural program, women were seen performing indecent dances wearing western clothes. Meanwhile, a video of the obscene dance has gone viral on social media during the Independence Day celebrations.
The viral video has been the focus of discussion in the entire district beyond that area. Facebook users have protested through comments, including famine of taste, shame, contempt of freedom, heinous abuse.
In this regard, the headmaster of Bingram High School Abdul Quddus said: "We went home after the sports program was completed. In the absence of teachers, such dances and songs were arranged. No school teacher is involved here.”
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) MM Samirul Islam said such dances are not desirable on Independence Day in any educational institution.
