Update : 23 Mar 2022, 04:55 PM

Nurses at Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical College Hospital (BSMMC) locked the hospital director in his office on Wednesday morning over not getting the Covid-19 incentive payments.

Hospital Director Md Saiful Islam was locked in his room from 10:30am to 11:30am, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Suman Ranjan confirmed.

He was released after police went to the spot, and the nurses were assured of the payment, he added.

A nurse at the hospital, asking anonymity, said that the hospital did not disburse the cash incentives the government gave out for nurses during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to sources, the government allocated Tk160 crore as incentive for the doctors, nurses and medical front liners of Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

However, hospital authorities withdrew Tk1 crore from the amount recently.

“The government took back the incentive amount for the next budget,” Md Saiful Islam told Dhaka Tribune.

“The incentive was taken from everyone, not just the nurses,” he added and said that he has already written to the authorities regarding the matter.
