A Khulna court has given the death penalty to a man for killing his ex-wife in 2021.

Khulna District and Sessions Judge Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury pronounced the verdict on Tuesday, with the convict Liton Mollah in the dock.

According to the case statement, Liton married Parvin Begum in 2016. Both had been married before.

They would start to have altercations, and seeing no alternative, Parvin divorced Liton in June 2021.

In a state of infuriation, Liton, armed with an iron bar and a knife, went to Parvin’s rented house near Shahid Smriti Mohila College in the area late on June 15 last year.

He forced his way into the house using the iron bar, before stabbing Parvin in various parts of her body. Then he bashed Parvin’s head multiple times with a piece of wood to make sure that she was dead.

Parvin’s daughter had awoken hearing her screams. Locals soon gathered at the house hearing her cry for help and took Parvin to a hospital, where the doctor on duty pronounced her dead.

Later, Parvin’s eldest daughter filed a murder case accusing Liton.

Police pressed charges against Liton on August 30 of the same year.
