Two boats with 50 passengers onboard have capsized after a collision with a bulkhead on the Shitalakshya River in Narayanganj.
The boats sank in the middle of the river on Saturday afternoon.
However, no passenger had been reported missing till filing of the report at 11pm.
According to naval police and eyewitnesses, the bulkhead hit the two passenger boats on its way to the central ferry terminal.
Locals and boatmen of the capsized vessels rescued the passengers and helped them to swim ashore.
Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of the naval police, said four people, including the driver of the bulkhead, were arrested in connection with the incident.
“It was not immediately clear if anyone was missing. Rescue operations will start if we receive any missing persons reports,” he added.
