Police have arrested a teacher on charges of raping a sixth-grader and leaving her pregnant at Jamalpur’s Melandaha upazila.
The accused is Md Bilash, 20, from Adra union of the upazila. He is the assistant teacher of Adra Genius School.
The teacher was handed over to the court following his arrest on Sunday afternoon.
MM Moinul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Melandaha police station, said Bilash initiated a physical relationship with the sixth grader over the last year by making promises of marriage. The girl is now five-months pregnant.
Locals informed police after learning of the incident and Bilash was arrested on Saturday night.
The schoolgirl has filed a case against Bilash with Melandha police.
