The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered nearly three kilograms of crystal meth, also known as ice, worth around Tk15.85 crore during a raid in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of the BGB positioned themselves around the Beribadh area early on Saturday, Teknaf BGB-2 chief Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar said in a media statement.
They carried out the operation based on information that a large consignment of drugs was likely to enter the country from Myanmar.
The patrol team noticed two people crossing the Naf River and entering Bangladesh at around 4am, the statement said.
They opened fire when the two men, noticing the patrolmen, started going back to Myanmar.
According to the statement, the men left the sack of crystal meth and swam back towards Myanmar amid the shooting.
A case has been filed with Teknaf police in this connection.
