Police in Cox’s Bazar have arrested three people with firearms and ammunition from a camp for Rohingya refugees in Teknaf upazila.
The detainees have been identified as Md. Shafiq, 26, Aman Ullah, 26, and Jamal Ahmed, 51, said the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
All of them belonged to a crime gang named “Islam group”, which operates in the Rohingya camps, said the local APBn 16 chief Md Tariqul Islam on Saturday.
“A raid was conducted in the camps on a tip-off and the Rohingyas were arrested from Block C of Camp No 22 at Unchiprang,” he said.
A pistol, a locally-made gun and 61 rounds of ammunition were found in their possession, according to the senior police officer.
During their preliminary interrogation, the detainees confessed to being involved in various criminal activities including drug trafficking, kidnapping and extortion in the camps, he added.
The detainees have been turned over to the Teknaf Model police station.
