The mother of the 2-month-old twins in Khulna, who were found dead, killed her children because they were crying, according to police.
The twins, Moni and Mukta, were found floating in a pond early morning on Friday at a village in the southwestern district’s Terkhada upazila.
Sub-Inspector Md Enamul of the Terkhada police said that the mother confessed to killing her twin babies during questioning.
Quoting the mother Kaniz Fatema Kona, the police officer said the twins had been crying despite being fed.
At around 2:30am, Kona slapped them, before pressing a pillow to their faces and suffocating them to death, according to Sub-Inspector Enamul
“In a state of desperation, she hatched a plot and dumped the bodies in the pond to avoid suspicion.”

Locals gathered around Kona’s house after she let out a scream at 4am crying for her “missing” babies. They started looking for them and found them floating in the pond around 6am.
Police later recovered the bodies and detained Kona and her parents upon finding their behaviour suspicious.
Later that night, Masum Billah, the twins’ father, filed a case in this connection, in which Kona was arrested.
Kona had been living at her father’s house since the birth of the twins, said Enamul.
“The two babies used to cry all the time. Kona had contacted her husband about this, and he was supposed to take them to his house next month. But Kona killed them before that could happen,” he added.
