Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) has arrested Kamal, the leader of a pirate gang named after him, along with four of his accomplices during a raid from the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (EPZ) area.
They were arrested on Tuesday from the second floor of a building on Akmal Ali Road, said RAB-7.
The arrestees were identified as Mohammad Nabi, 26, Ferdous Majhi, 35, Mohammad Shamim, 24 and Mohammad Annie, 31.
Earlier, On February 11, pirates kidnapped some fishermen and a stole a trawler while from the Chittagong-Hatia channel of the Bay of Bengal.
Lieutenant Colonel MA Yusuf, Chittagong RAB-7 commander, said that they conducted the raid on a tip-oof. Five pirates were arrested during the raid. Law enforcers seized a single-barreled gun, two one-shooter guns, three machetes and sharp weapons during the raid.
The arrestees were handed over to police, the RAB official said.
