Cox’s Bazar medical officer removed over ‘sexual harassment’

On Thursday, intern doctors went on a strike protesting sexual harassment and indecency against doctors

Update : 04 Feb 2022, 10:15 PM

A medical officer of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital has been removed from his post over allegations of sexual harassment by intern doctors.

The accused, Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of the hospital, was transferred to Pekua Upazila Health Complex.

Following the move, the intern doctors went back to work on Friday, said Dr Muminur Rahman.

They were on a strike since Thursday, protesting the harassment on female intern doctors. As a result, patients at the hospital were deprived of medical care.

The intern doctors alleged that Dr Mahfuzur harassed a number of female interns at the hospital. When they reported such behavior, the authorities took punitive measures against the interns instead of the accused.
