Four journalists were injured by some miscreants on Saturday while collecting news on upcoming UP elections in Thakurgaon.
The incident took place at Mandalpara area of Senua Union Parishad ahead of polls there on February 7.
The injured journalists are Tanvir Hossain Tanu, district correspondent of Independent television, Mainuddin Talukdar Himel, correspondent for RisingBD website, Sohel Rana, correspondent of NewsBangla24 and Doinik Bhorer Akash, and Zahid Hasan of Daily Mail.
One of the injured, Tanvir Hossain Tanu said that supporters of Awami League candidate Nobel Kumar Singh and independent candidate Ataur Rahman locked in a clash in Molankhur Mandalpara area at around 2:30pm.
He alleged that Nobel’s supporters tried to extort them. After the journalists refused to pay the sum, Nobel’s supporters beat them up.
The journalists said their cameras, mobile phones were broken and wallets were snatched during the attack.
Locals and other journalists rescued the four injured journalists and admitted them to a hospital.
Later, Thakurgaon Press Club organized a human chain protesting the attack on journalists on duty. Police said they were investigating the incident.
