The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will form a committee to probe the deaths of nine zebras at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park, Gazipur this month.
The probe body will find out the exact cause behind the deaths of these zebras, a ministry press release said on Tuesday.
"If anyone is found responsible for zebras' deaths, legal action will be taken against his or her,” Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin said during a virtual meeting of the ministry on the 'Review of Implementation Progress on ADP Projects in FY 2021-22.’
He said the death of nine zebras in such a short span of time is very sad.

"The body parts have already been sent to various laboratories to find out the cause. Sample tests are underway at various locations. We have received some preliminary information," the minister said.
He said experts are analysing the results and more time is required to find the exact cause behind the deaths. "Samples may be sent abroad if required," he added.
Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Begum Habibun Nahar, Environment Secretary Md Mostafa Kamal, Additional Secretary (Administration) of the ministry Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Additional Secretary (Development) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Director General of the Department of Environment (DoE) Md Ashraf Uddin and Chief Conservator of Forests Md Amir Hosain Chowdhury, project directors, senior officials of the ministry and different agencies joined the meeting.
