Students of Government BM College in Barisal have staged a protest and human chain demanding the resumption of fourth-year honours examination under National University (NU) and a reopening of educational institutions.
Students first marched on the college campus at 11:30am on Tuesday. Later, they organised a human chain on the road in front of the administrative building of the college.
In addition, the Islamic student movement formed a separate human chain at the same time.
Student Abdur Rahim said: “Examinations are going on in six colleges under Dhaka University. However, all the examinations under NU have been suspended due to the sudden surge in Covid cases.
As a result, we are stuck with exams of only two or three subjects. Moreover, our educational life has been disrupted due to the closure of educational institutions through various business activities, including trade fairs, being undertaken”, he added.
Therefore, he said, students had demanded that the examinations be held in accordance with rules and regulations.
At the conclusion of the human chain, the students presented a memorandum to the college principal.

Principal Golam Kibria said: "We will talk to the higher authorities about the matter."
Meanwhile, students of Comilla colleges affiliated with NU have warned of a strong movement if the authority did not resume the postponed exams.
The students made the announcement at a human chain organized at Kandirpar area on Tuesday morning.
The students said that if the routine of the postponed examinations was not given within the next 30 days, then a strong movement would be called by blocking the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
They added: “Postponing exams is completely unreasonable as everything is open in the country, except educational institutions. We want to sit for exams by maintaining hygiene rules.”
