Three people were killed after a train hit a three-wheeler small truck, locally known as “bhotbhoti”, in Chapainawabganj on Monday.
The incident was reported from a level crossing at Alinagar Hazirmor area at 8:30am, said police.
The deceased were identified as Fulchan, Sheher Ali, and Naimul.
Quoting witnesses, OC Mozaffar Hossain said the three-wheeler carrying the three got stuck at the level crossing, as they were returning home after selling fish at a local market.
“The Ishwardi-bound train crashed into the three-wheeler, killing its passengers on the spot,” he said.
Chapainawabganj Fire Service’s Station Officer Farid Uddin, said the driver of the three-wheeler suddenly tried to cross the level-crossing as the train reached the spot.
“The three-wheeler was stuck to the train following the crash and was dragged along the rail tracks,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of the district AKM Galib Khan provided financial assistance of Tk25,000 each to the families of the victims.
He said said the train accident occurred at Hajirmor which is an unauthorized level crossing. "I reported the incident to the divisional commissioner. A rail gate will be built here soon."
