Taimur Alam Khandaker, independent mayoral candidate at the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) elections, on Saturday alleged that police had raided his chief election agent ATM Kamal’s home during his absence.

“In the afternoon, police raided the house of my chief election agent ATM Kamal, who is also the general secretary of Mahanagar BNP, when he was not at home. They also went to the house of the former president of the Siddhirganj Thana BNP,” he said.

He also said 10 leaders, activists and election agents working for him had been arrested in the last few days.

Taimur made the allegations while talking to journalists on Saturday evening.

“Police are arresting my campaign members selectively. I have complained many times about the violation of the code of conduct,” he said, claiming that those who were in charge of the election were corrupting the process.

The arrestees are Mumtaz Mia, Md Jamal, Md Giashauddin Pradhan, Ahsan Hossain Bhuiyan, Monir Hossain, Ahsanullah, Kazi Jasim Uddin, Md Borhan Uddin, Abu Taher and Joydev Chandra Mandal.

Taimur mentioned that police had also applied for a seven-day remand for them.

Regarding the allegations, Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Zaidul Alam said there were cases against those who had been arrested and they had not applied for bail.

“I don't know why they are complaining. Police are busy with the election now,” he added.
