Five people who were severely injured in a balloon cylinder blast at Nangalkot, Comilla have been shifted to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.
The five are Anowar Hossain, 35, Md Saiful Islam, 22, Abdur Rab, 27, Md Sabbir Rahman, 14 and Emon, 16.
Saiful sustained 41% burns while Rab sustained 30% and Sabbir 25%, said resident surgeon Dr SM Aiyub Hossain.
Meanwhile, the authorities have formed a three-member committee to probe the gas cylinder blast that left over 50 people, including 15 children, injured on Thursday.
The probe body members are Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ashraful Huq, Nangalkot police Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Rakibul Islam and a representative from the Fire Service, reports Bangla Tribune.
The committee has been asked to submit its report by Tuesday, according to Upazila Nirbahi Officer Laiya Saiful.
Comilla Deputy Commissioner Kamrul Hassan said: “The families of six injured persons have been given Tk10,000 each. Others will get the same amount, or whatever is needed for their treatment.”
Earlier, Nangalkot police station OC Md Faruk Hossain said that they had not received any complaint over the incident.
“We did not know how Anwar made the gas. We have visited the spot,” he said.
Earlier, five people seriously injured in Thursday’s balloon cylinder blast in Comilla were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advance treatment. They were later shifted to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
The five included cylinder owner Anwar, Dr Md Asif Imran of Comilla Medical College Hospital told Dhaka Tribune on Friday afternoon.
Twenty-two people had been admitted to the hospital, he said, adding that seven of them were discharged after treatment.
