Indian citizen, 9 others held with yaba, arms in Thakurgaon

Police raided the area based on a tip-off

Police have arrested 10 people including an Indian national with arms, bullets and yaba in Thakurgaon’s Baliadangi Upazila. 

They were arrested during an operation at the upazila’s Amjankhor border area, Baliadangi police Officer-in-Charge Habibul Haq Pradhan confirmed on Tuesday evening. 

The arrestees are Indian citizen Gafur Alam, 25, Delowar Hossain, 28, Abdur Razzak, 23, Bikash Pal, 35, Zakir Hossain, 25, Hazrat Ali, 27, Monirul Islam, 32, Bishnu Pal, 29, Nasirul Islam, 24, Pashirul Islam, 28. 

Late on Monday night, police went to the border area in Amjankhor following a tip-off.

He added that the police saw a microbus that did not stop when the police asked. Police followed the car and tried to stop the car in Panchagarh’s Atowary area. 

At one point, they got down from the car and opened fire at the policemen, who also retaliated, the OC said.

While some of their accomplices fled, police were able to catch the 10 people with a pistol, two rounds of bullets and 32 pieces of yaba.

Charges of possessing arms, narcotics and control of entry have been brought against the Indian national while the rest of the accused have been charged with possession of arms and drugs. 

They were handed over to Atowary Police. Nine more people who are absconding have been named in the case.
