A home minister-level meeting between Bangladesh and India has decided to stop the use of lethal arms at the border shared by the two countries, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has said.
People living on either side of the border “share good relations and sometimes a few may cross it casually,” which leads to some unexpected events, he said on Tuesday, alluding to border killings.
He was speaking to the media at an event in Kurigram.

The year 2020 witnessed the highest number of killings of Bangladeshis along the border by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), in the last 10 years.
At least 45 Bangladeshi citizens were either shot dead or tortured to death by the Indian border force along the border areas from January to December in 2020.
On Saturday, a Bangladeshi youth was shot dead allegedly by the BSF along the border of Krisnaswada under Sapahar upazila in Naogaon.
