Another 21 people who sustained injuries in similar incidents are taking treatment at the hospital

Update : 06 Jan 2022, 07:49 PM

Two women have died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital in the last 24 hours while undergoing treatment with burn injuries.

The deceased were identified as Tara Moni, 85, of Phulbari upazila in Dinajpur, and Asha Rani, 45, of Phulbari upazila in Kurigram district.

Burn Unit Head Dr MA Hamid Palash confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.

Another 21 people are still undergoing treatment for burns.

Dr Palash, also the chief assistant professor of burn and plastic surgery, said: “The two women had 60-70% burns. We could not save them because their respiratory tracts were severely burnt when they were basking by the fire due to cold.”

Due to the lack of necessary winter clothes, many poor families sit beside the fire to keep themselves warm, and sometimes their clothes catch fire due to carelessness.
