Mofazzol Hossain, a member of Gaibandha union parishad under Islampur upazila in Jamalpur, has cleared the SSC examinations at the age of 59, proving the saying that age is just a number.
The quinquagenarian obtained a grade point average of (GPA) of 4.35 participating in the exams as a student of Gowalerchar Vocational School last year, surprising and inspiring the locals at the same time.
“I am on my second term as a UP member. I have to interact with people from all walks of life. They would ask me about my educational qualifications, but being embarrassed, I could not answer them,” said Hossain.
“I finally got admitted to a vocational school in 2019 to escape that feeling,” he added.
Not one to become complacent, Hossain said he also hoped to get an honours degree like his five children.
Gaibandha UP Chairman Maksud Ansari as well as Hossain’s relatives congratulated him on pulling off such a result.
“Where there is a will there is a way. He [Hossain] has shown us that age is not an obstacle if one is determined to achieve something,” commended Ansari.
